ClanGen (also known as Clan Generator) is a Warrior Cats Fan Game. It is a Life Simulation Game where you control a clan of randomly-generated cats and watch them grow. It was created in 2020 by Tumblr user just-some-cat, but has grown in popularity from a downloadable fan edit.

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Cats can have kits as soon as they become warriors, meaning they can be a parent right after graduating from apprenticeship.
  • Absurdly Elderly Mother: Additionally, there isn't an upper age limit on when a cat can have kits. Though this is Truth in Television - humans are one of only a few species who go through menopause, and cats are not included in that list.
  • Adoptive Peer Parent: Apprentices can find and adopt stray kits that may not be much younger than them.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Any two adult cats (meaning at least warrior age) can be chosen to be mates, regardless of the age difference.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": One of the many Game Mods for the game adds multiple new permanent conditions and illnesses, (some of which can't occur in cats in real life.) Naturally, this comes into play like it usually does in the Warriors series, like "comet spirit" for ADHD and "starwalker" for autism. The mod does give you the option to toggle this off, though.
  • Creature-Breeding Mechanic: You can't control this, but cats can have offspring, which will look like a mix of their parents' appearances. This is integral to the game, as you need to accumulate more cats so your clan won't die out. The only exception is that cats will be more likely to have offspring if paired, and paired cats will not have kits with any other cat (unless affairs are turned on) — allowing you to somewhat control who can have kits with who.
  • Cute Kitten: Kits have special, smaller lineart with cute poses.
  • Dead Person Conversation: Status blurbs will sometimes mention a StarClan cat speaking to a living one.
  • Death of a Child: Any cat of any age, including kits, can die at any time with no way to prevent it.
  • Developer's Foresight: The game keeps a list of potentially Unfortunate Names that could be generated, such as racial slurs or names pertaining to injuries, so that if a name on that list is generated, the game will generate a new name.
  • Early Game Hell: It is possible for your clan to die out very early on if you get unlucky, due to your small numbers.
  • Emergent Narrative: While the events are pre-written, the characters are randomized and which events occur to which are as well, meaning your clans can end up in very different ways.
  • Endless Game: The only possible way for the game to end is for your clan to die out, which becomes increasingly improbable as your population grows.
  • Everyone Is Bi: Cats will sometimes gain romantic attraction towards one another. Due to the randomised nature of the game, this attraction can be towards cats of any gender, and partnered cats will stay together if one of them comes out as transgender.
  • Euphemistic Names: As in the game deep is a prefix and throat is a suffix, it is possible to get a cat named Deepthroat.
  • Experience Points: Cats become more experienced and less likely to fail the more patrols you send them out on. By default, an apprentice cannot be made a warrior until the game describes them as "prepared" — that is, their experience point total is greater than or equal to 51.note  The experience point cap is 321.

  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Your clan members have thoughts and actions displayed on their info pages that have no other effects on the gameplay whatsoever.
  • Gay Option: Players can choose to pair cats of the same gender together.
  • Happily Adopted: Your cats can come across kittens out in the wild and take them home, often adopting them.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: There's an in-game setting that will allow same-sex couples to have kits.
  • Life Simulation Game: Clan-Gen is a game where you manage a clan of wild cats.
  • Luck-Based Mission: All of the patrol scenarios have a good or bad outcome, and you can't control which you get.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: Since there's no cooldown between litters, and mated couples are more likely to have kits, you can end up with one couple having dozens of kits if you don't have very many couples.
  • Mooks, but no Bosses: As there's no real combat gameplay, this is somewhat to be expected. There are no bosses, just minor enemies your patrolling cats can encounter.

  • No Antagonist: While you can get into fights with other clans and wildlife on patrols, the game ultimately has no main conflict and is just a life simulation.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: "Cats who cannot work are no longer eligible mentors for new apprentices."
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted - because names are randomly generated, it's extremely common to get cats with the same prefix. Or just straight up the same full name.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Since deaths are randomly generated, it is very common for kits to die before their parents.
  • Player Versus Environment: Downplayed, as the player cannot directly control their cats in combat. However, the "opponents" their cats encounter on patrol are still decided by AI.
  • Random Event: One of the primary elements of the game is advancing time one month by pressing a button and seeing what occurs.
  • Relationship Values: Each cat has them with the rest of their clan, and you can see them in-game on their status screen. They can influence how cats interact with each other in Random Events. For instance, cats with a mutually high "romantic like" stat may become mates on their own, while a cat may murder another cat if their "dislike" for them is high enough.
  • Resources Management Gameplay: Sick or injured cats need herbs to be healed by the medicine cats, which you need to gather by sending your medicine cats on patrol. They may also gather a few herbs without player intervention when a new moon begins. It's possible to run out of herbs, either by using them up or having them spoil at the start of a moon — in most cases, some or all of a specific herb will go bad, but there is a slim chance that your entire herb stores will be lost.
  • Save-Game Limits: You are limited to 8 clans.
  • Save Scumming: Cat died that you liked? Patrol or mediation didn't go the way you wanted? Just don't save!
  • Shout-Out: Loners, rogues and kittypets can join your Clan, and their names can often reference other media.
  • Status Effects: Temporary conditions — typically things such as pregnancy, minor injuries, and grief.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: It is possible to pair a cat with their former mentor.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential:
    • You have a button available to insta-kill any cat you don't want in your clan anymore, including kits and elders.
    • You can send any dead cat to the Dark Forest regardless of whether they have done anything to warrant it, which again extends to kits.
  • Virtual Pet: While these literally are wild cats and not pets, the game mechanically plays somewhere between the realm of a virtual pet raising sim and a town management game.
  • Xenofiction: Like its source material. You can see the thoughts and beliefs of the otherwise non-anthropomorphic cats in your clans through their little status blurbs.
