The Brimstone Society has summoned Rayne for one last mission to lead a group of soldiers into a giant underground castle to do battle against none other than her own father, Kagan. When the soldiers prove ineffective against Kagan’s supernatural menaces, it’s up to Rayne to run, jump, cut, and feed her way through gruesome foes, deadly traps, tricky platforming sections, and horrifying bosses. It’s Rayne’s last job — will she “clean house” or find herself six feet under?

BloodRayne: Betrayal (2011) is the third game in the BloodRayne series after BloodRayne and BloodRayne 2. Unlike the previous two, which were Third Person Shooters made by Terminal Reality, this one is an Animesque 2D action platformer, made by WayForward Technologies.

After a group of soldiers she leads proves ineffective in fighting Kagan's forces, the dhampyr Rayne must take up arms herself.

This game provides examples of the following tropes:

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: In BloodRayne: Betrayal, most of the blood splatters, explosions and slime splatters are this. It mildly clashes with the game's otherwise 2D-art style.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Rayne's eyes are changed from green to red, matching her hair color as a result.
  • Animesque: The art style of the game is reminiscent of anime, taken up another notch in ''Fresh Bites" with Rayne's artwork as shown in this page's image where her face is closer to a typical anime girl.
  • Boss Subtitles: Just before the boss battles in Betrayal.
  • Bottomless Pit: Par for the course in BloodRayne: Betrayal.
  • The Cameo: The Boy and His Blob show up in Chapter 15 in Betrayal.
  • Cleavage Window: Rayne's outfit shows off the upper half of her cleavage.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: The Crab Puncher (no, not that one), the first boss from BloodRayne: Betrayal is a giant mechanical crab.
  • Guns Are Useless: Averted. Rayne's magnum is quite powerful, able to knock most mooks off their feet.
  • Load-Bearing Boss: Rayne herself lampshades this at the start of Betrayal's final level, where she must escape the collapsing castle after defeating the final boss in the previous level.
Rayne: Ugh, I didn't realize he was a load-bearing demon!
  • Updated Re Release: The Fresh Bites re-release adds a new rebalanced difficulty mode while keeping the original difficulty as an option, extra bug fixes, and full voice-acting from the series' original cast.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: Rayne can infect enemies by biting them, making them turn green before detonating them. It's capable of infecting other enemies, thus causing chain reactions.
  • X-Ray Sparks:
    • If Rayne is struck by Kagan's lightning, her skeleton flashes for the duration of the spell. Also happens when you beat him the first time, he electrocutes her to stun her.
    • The "Electric Eyes" also do this if you try to go Raven Form in front of them. For some reason, the electric frogs do not cause this effect.
