Saya's longest day of Chiropteran hunting.

"Today’s gonna get a little wild. This town. It’s alive. I can hear it breathing. Even my old wounds are telling me. They’re throbbing. There’s no doubt that Hata is in this town. I can feel his pulse resonating. He’s waiting quietly until the time that I kill hill.''
Gou Aoyama

Blood+: One Night Kiss is a PlayStation 2 Action Game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, with Suda51 serving as the game's director. It is based on the anime of the same name and is one of the three games tied to the anime's main story released in 2006.

Set in the town of Shiki, a truck crashes in the middle of a bridge, carrying a long black haired girl who looks eerily similar to Saya. While the truck's driver dies after the crash, the girl ends up surviving, but ends up tumbling down the river and shortly abducted by chiropterans. On the following day, Public Security detective Gou Aoyama goes to investigate the incident while trying to find the whereabouts of a man named Hata. Meanwhile, Red Shield partners with Public Security and sends Saya to infiltrate Shiki as a transfer student in order to eliminate the chiropterans located around town. However, these blood-sucking monsters are not the same monsters Saya fought in Okinawa...

And she has a single day to solve this mess before Kai and Riku starts to suspect anything

The game was never released outside of Japan, but there were attempts at translating the script. An entire playthrough of the game was translated by Paradise Hotel 51 and can be watched here.

Tropes:

  • Alpha Bitch: The game introduces a trio of these right off the bat, just to mock Saya for being a transfer student. And they are her first targets.
  • Another Side, Another Story: The game is split into two segments where you play as Saya and Aoyama, as both of their segments have plot threads that ties into one another as it goes on. Despite this, both characters never interact with each other, even though Red Shield and Public Security are working together to eliminate the chiropterans.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: If you somehow have no idea whatsoever as to how beat the segment's boss, either Lewis (as Saya) or Akama (as Aoyama) will send an e-mail to the player explaining how to beat them.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Even though Saya is the main protagonist front and center, the story is not centered around her. Aoyama is the major focus of the game, driving the main plot forward while uncovering the truth regarding the chiropterans. Meanwhile Saya is unaware of the truth regarding what's going on, only wandering around town and killing chiropterans left and right because of her mission.
  • Dolled-Up Installment: While this is an anime based title, most of the elements and themes introduced in the game's plot are taken straight from The Silver Case and Moonlight Syndrome, making this game an unofficial title in Suda's "Kill the Past" series.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Imperfect Chiropterans. Instead of resembling the hulking bat-like monsters from the show, they all have very different forms and designs, more like resembling mutated Heaven Smiles. And as the game goes on, they become far more absurd. How absurd? One of Saya's bosses is a chiroptera mech.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The entire game takes place over the course of a single day, from 9AM to 6AM.
  • Forced Tutorial: Saya's first playable segment roadblocks you to teach some of the game's basics, such as the game's combat and the most basic things like interacting with NPCs and reading e-mails.
  • Gaiden Game: The game is set during Episode 7 of the main show, the only episode where Saya does not appear.
  • Harder Than Hard: "Perfect Kiss". Bosses now have double the health, hit harder and now sports an alternate color scheme. In addition to these changes, they can now change the camera to their perspective just to screw with the player. The player does get new weapons for Saya and Aoyama, but that's the only help you get from the game. Lastly, new cutscenes are added during Saya's segments and finishing the game is required to fully unlock the complete ending.
  • It Can Think: Unlike the normal breed, the Imperfect Chiropterans are fully aware of what they turned into, and some of them even retain sentience., although they cannot communicate.
  • Kill Enemies to Open: Most of the game's bosses can only be fought by killing the mutated animals on the sewers around town. Once they're all dead, the boss becomes available to fight.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Even though this game takes place early on in the anime, there are two minor things from later episodes included in this game as bonuses, such as Saya's second blade and her Time Skip outfit.
  • Limit Break: As Saya, you can't deplete a chiropteran's health by just slashing at it. The player must build up a gauge (indicated by five red roses) by attacking the enemy non-stop. Once it becomes full, Saya becomes enraged and her attack speed increases, allowing her to finally deal damage.
  • Minimalist Cast: Excluding the game's original cast, only Saya, Hagi, David and Lewis plays a major role in the game's plot. Kai and Riku are barely in the game until the ending and George only appears on Saya's cellphone wallpaper. And despite not being active, at least on the timeline the game is based on, Diva is only mentioned once, but she doesn't have a major role.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: The Imperfect Chiropterans may be, well, imperfect, but they're far more durable than the normal breed. Even Saya can't cut them down like the ones in the anime without the Limit Break active. And in case of Aoyama, while he can shoot them, the most he can do to them is incapacitate them, as they still need Saya's blood to be killed off. This doesn't become an issue later when he gets the piercing rounds.
  • Press X to Not Die: If Saya gets knocked down during a fight, a X button prompt will appear onscreen. Quickly pressing X before Saya hits the ground causes her to summon Hagi to deflect the enemy's attack and allowing Saya to quickly recover.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Wham Shot: The first introduction to the Imperfect Chiropterans. You know how things will not be the same as the anime when Saya's bullies starts turning into humanoid dinosaurs.
