"Two bands enter. One band leaves."
Battle Of the Bands is a Rhythm Game by Planet Moon Studios released for the Wii on April 21, 2008. The story is set in a fictitious world gone mad, where bands battle for music supremacy using weaponized instruments. The game features 30 licensed tracks from from various artists that can each be played in 5 different music genres (Rock, Country, Marching Band, Hip Hop and Latin), depending on the chosen bands.
Tropes present in this game include:
- Amusement Park of Doom: The rock band Carnivus is themed to this, especially their map.
- Anti Poop-Socking: After every two matches, your opponent will ask you to take a break from the game.
- Cover Version: Prominent in the game, from a country cover of Blitzkrieg Bop to a marching band cover of Coming Undone.
- The Dead Can Dance: The band Scariatchi, a group of mariachi-playing animated skeletons that rose from their graves to play Latin music and dance the night away.
- Deal with the Devil: The rock band Sinister are said to have sold their souls to the devil in order to get their face-melting musical talent.
- Gratuitous Spanish: If a song is played in the Latin genre, the lyrics will be translated into Spanish no matter what.
- Instrument of Murder: Everyone wields one in this game. Examples include microphone grenades, a trombone flamethrower and a double bass cannon.
- Defeat Equals Explosion: After a battle, the losing band gets blown up by a explosion from the winning band.
- Musical Assassin: All of the bands have weaponized instruments which they use to fight for stardom.
- The Power of Rock: All rock bands, obviously.
