Battle Cats Rangers was an Idle Game spin-off of The Battle Cats that was developed by YD Online and MEMORY, Inc., and released on April 27th, 2017. It was shut down on March 30th, 2019.

Battle Cats Rangers featured the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Tank Cat is one of the game's heroes, and is thus capable of dishing out massive amounts of damage, which is a stark contrast to its non-existent damage output in The Battle Cats.
    • Many of the helpers qualify, but special mention goes to:
      • Gold Cat is a Junk Rare in the original game, but one of the strongest helpers here.
      • Dread Pirate Catley is one of the weakest Cats for direct attack in the original, being made to knock back Red enemies instead of dealing damage. Here, it's the strongest helper outside of Valkyrie Cat and Bahamut Cat.
      • Valkyrie and Bahamut themselves are outclassed by a lot of other backliners in the original, but are the strongest helpers here.
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • Strong Cats from the main game, like Dragon Cat and Titan Cat, are quickly and horribly outclassed by other helpers. One of the biggest examples is Can Can Cat — while it's insanely powerful for its cost in the original, here, it's superseded in power by Kotatsu Cat and Boogie Cat.
    • All of the enemies. Instead of actually fighting back, they just sit there and take hits until they die or the time limit elapses.
  • Adapted Out: None of the Uber Rares are available for purchase or use.
  • Animation Bump: Inverted. All of the Cats animate much more choppily than they did in the base game.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: When first released, the game had a much shoddier translation than the original. Most of it was fixed in update 1.0.5, but some gaffes still remain, like the ability to summon a Viking Cat to attack the enemy from behind being called "Butt Warrior".
  • Degraded Boss: Unique bosses from the original game, like Crazed Cats and Awakened Cats, appear as mere mid-stage bosses.
  • Demoted to Extra: Wheel Cat, Solar Cat, and Chill Cat aren't selectable units or helpers, but mere Equippable Allies that can be bought with Cat Food.
  • Endless Game: There are 30 stages, each with its own set of 10 enemies to fight. Once stage 30 is beaten, the game returns to stage 1 on a higher difficulty level.
  • Final Boss: Director Kurosawah is the final opponent fought before the game loops.
  • Foregone Victory: Regular enemies have no timer that will kick you out of the battle when it elapses. The only challenge is in seeing how fast you can kill it and move on to the next one.
  • Game-Breaking Bug: The game's initial launch didn't let you unlock other heroes, sticking you with the basic Cat family. Additionally, you weren't able to purchase an upgrade unless you had more gold than its price, not exactly its amount.
  • Hitbox Dissonance: Many units hit at a different time from when their animation would suggest. Bahamut is probably the biggest offender, as he delivers damage when the ball hits the enemy, not when it explodes like in the original.
  • Idle Game: Of the Clicker Game variety. Tapping makes your hero do more damage, while the helpers attack automatically.
  • Mighty Glacier: Hacker Cat deals more damage per hit than many Cats beyond it, but attacks slowly enough that it ends up falling behind anyway.
  • Original Generation: Czar Penguin, the Demon King, and Cerberus are unique enemies not found in the original game, appearing solely as raid bosses. Additionally, Cats carrying treasure chests appear as Metal Slime-type enemies.
  • Pinball Scoring: Exaggerated. After reaching money totals or DPS in the quadrillions (achievable even early-game), the game gives up and just starts using letters to abbreviate numbers, starting with A for a quintillion. The strongest helper, Bahamut, can eventually achieve 147.47 AU DPS.
  • Set Bonus: Using certain helpers together can activate CatCombos, like in the original.
  • Sudden Name Change: Many Cats had their names changed from the base game, with some of the biggest changes being Macho Cat to "Builder Cat", Dom Cat to "Queen Cat", Moneko to "Cutie Cat", and Flying Ninja Cat to "Flying Squirelle Ninja Cat". This was Averted after update 1.0.5, which reverted most of their names to what they were before.
  • Timed Mission: The bosses are no different from regular enemies aside from having a 30-second timer before you're shunted out of the battle.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Teacher Bun Bun is the boss of the first set of stage, and is thus easy to defeat within the time limit. Ironic, considering how he was the exact opposite in the original.
