A Good Husband is a spiritual sequel to Allen's A Good Wife on GameJolt. While it appears as a cute and simple "be a good husband and do chores around the house to gain points" Unity game, A Good Husband is a horribly depressing and short game about domestic abuse.
A Good Husband contains examples of the following tropes:
- Asshole Victim: You can kill your wife for being such an abusive, unfaithful bitch.
- The Blank: The game's simplistic artstyle makes the husband and wife faceless.
- Camera Perspective Switch: You can change the game from first-person to third-person at the press of a key. The game locks into first-person mode once you pick up the gun.
- Crapsaccharine World: Yes, it may look like a cute, simple game where you go around the house doing chores for your wife, but it is not.
- Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Horribly averted. The verbal and emotional abuse the wife forces onto the husband is not Played for Laughs.
- Downer Ending: The husband snaps and kills his wife and is thrown into prison.
- Face Death with Dignity: While the wife does show a second of fear and bargaining, even when her husband has a loaded gun pointed at her face, that doesn't stop her from verbally abusing him.
- Golden Ending: You can escape the abuse by simply leaving.
- Hate Sink: Unless you're into extreme Romanticized Abuse, it is literally impossible to not hate the wife. Every single word she says and action she does is a completely unnecessary, needlessly cruel Kick the Dog.
- Heroic Mime
- Jerkass: Jesus Christ, is the wife one cold-hearted bitch. Chewing her husband out for telling innocent stories to his friends, throwing out all of his prized trophies, forcing him to pay all the bills, cheating on him, and snapping at him for sitting down next to her as she watches TV.
- Multiple Endings: You can either go to your bedroom and get a gun to blow your wife's brains out, or simply get in your car and leave. Or, if you go to the bed, get something from your wife.
- Pink Girl, Blue Boy: The husband has a blue face, the wife has a pink face.
- Rage Breaking Point: The husband quietly and submissively takes everything his wife throws at him, but by the end of the game, either divorces her, or blows her brains out.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: You can simply get in your car and leave to escape your wife's abuse.
- The Sociopath: The wife might be one, only showing a sliver of remorse for her inexcusably cruel emotional abuse when she has a gun to her head. And even that's just for a second, as she goes right back to the emotional abuse!
- Too Dumb to Live: The wife gives one plea to her husband to put the gun down before she goes right back to chewing him out, which of course earns her a bullet to the head.
