When Mizgir becomes smitten with the Snow Maiden, her adopted parents bend over backwards to accommodate him due to his great wealth and order her to accept him, never mind that the Snow Maiden doesn't like the man who just dumped her friend. In particular, her parents instantly agree to throw out poor shepherd Lel of whom the Snow Maiden is fond.
