As the introduction has mentioned, Korea is divided into two countries (Democratic People's Republic of Korea aka North Korea which has 13 divisions and the Republic of Korea aka South Korea which has 17 divisions) as a result of the 38th parallel. If counted the divisions of both Koreas, the total would be 30 (18 provinces and 12 cities). They were formed in 1948 after WWII.
