Leonard Chess (born Lejzor Szmuel Czyz; March 12, 1917 - October 16, 1969) was a Polish-American record company executive and co-founder of Chess Records best known for his influence on blues and rock and roll.
He was married to Revetta Sloan and had three children, including Marshall Chess and his grandson is Jamar Chess.
Chess died in 1969 at the age of 52 from a heart attack.
