  • Acting for Two: In the Japanese version:
    • Yuki Nagaku voices both Alison and Sister Nia.
    • Ryohei Arai voices both Ed and Licht.
    • Yohei Azakami voices both Franz and Captain Reed.
    • Daisuke Kishio voices both Kiergaard and Austin.
    • Naoki Tatsuta voices both Sir Carlan and Little Paro.
    • Naomi Ozora voices both Dina and Griselda.
    • 3 of the 4 Wardens of Evolution share their Japanese voice actor with another character: Hydra with Barbaros (Hirohiko Kakegawa), Minos with Thanatos (Takahiro Fujimoto), and Nestor with Silvia (Chieko Atarashi).
  • Author's Saving Throw: After the negative reception for the initial localization of the North American release, NIS America announced they were re-localizing the script to correct several scenes and brought voice actors back to re-dub several lines. The patch was implemented into the Sony PlayStation 4 and Play Station Vita versions on January 30, 2018, while the Nintendo Switch and PC ports were released with it already in place.
  • Limited Special Collector's Ultimate Edition: The collectors edition of the game include a soft cover artbook, a hardcover artbook (based on Adol's journal) and a soundtrack CD. The Play Station Vita, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions includes a steelbook, a cloth poster and two acrylic standees of Adol and Dana, while the Nintendo Switch version includes a letter opener based on the in-game sword, Mistilteinn.
  • Milestone Celebration: The international PlayStation 4 version was released in 2017, coinciding with the series' 30th anniversary.
  • Newbie Boom: Although the franchise has always been an Action RPG niche, Ys VIII was the first to truly break into the mainstream by appealing to a more Wide-Open Sandbox-style of exploration and play. Many newcomers who had heard of, but never tried Ys, would do so via this game, to which more than half a million copies would be sold across all available platforms two years after its initial Play Station Vita release, the most out of any Ys installment.
  • The Other Darrin: As of this game, Kenta Miyake has officially succeeded Tesshō Genda as the de-facto voice of Dogi.
  • Promoted Fangirl: Anna Kashina is a massive fan of Ys VIII (her first game in the series) and would go on to write the official novelization of the game. In fact, the novelization was her idea; she approached Falcom about doing the novelization.
  • Schedule Slip: The North American PC release was infamously delayed indefinitely a day before its release date due to bug fixes and a re-work of the translation. After three months, NIS America announced a new release date for January 30, 2018, until the publisher instigated another delay two weeks later for fixes of other bugs discovered while beta testing, putting it on indefinite delay again. Two months later, it was given a launch window of April 16, 2018, which actually came true, though there were still complaints about the quality of the port. Patches would be released for additional bugs on a practically daily basis for the next month. It wouldn't be until NIS America hired Peter "Durante" Thoman through his company PH3 Games to help rebuild and replace the port in 2020 that the whole disaster was finally laid to rest.
  • Sequel Gap: Seven years between the original release of Ys SEVEN and Ys VIII.
  • Studio Hop: NIS America replaced XSEED Games as not only this game's international publisher, but the one going forward for the rest of the franchise.
