Trivia / You're (Not) Elected, Charlie Brown

Go To

  • Edited for Syndication: From 2006 to 2019, ABC aired an edited version of the special in order to fill a one hour timeslot that started with the uncut version of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
  • Real-Life Relative: Stephen Shea, who voiced Linus here (as well the next few specials and Snoopy, Come Home) was the younger brother of Christopher Shea, who played Linus in the first five Peanuts specials.
  • What Could Have Been: Originally the title was going to be You're Elected, Charlie Brown, in keeping with the tradition that "Charlie Brown" be included in the titles, even being advertised as it in TV Guide. However, the producers realized that would not have made sense due to the fact that Charlie Brown was not running in the election (unlike the original comic strip storyline, where he was Linus's running mate). Thus the title was changed to reflect the fact that Charlie Brown observes, rather than participates in the race for student body president. This explains both why the word "not" was with a caret between the words "You're" and "Elected" on the chalkboard as this happened at the last minute and there was no time to redo the entire cel and also why the children's chorus still sings, "You're Elected, Charlie Brown" during the original title sequence.
