Trivia / Young Royals (2021)

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Many of Wilhelm's Character Tics were created by Edvin Ryding.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Linda and her actress, Carmen Gloria Pérez, are both Latina immigrants to Scandinavia.
    • Downplayed with Omar Rudberg and Simon. While Omar himself is an immigrant, Simon is the son of one.
  • Dawson Casting: Very much averted, as most of the actors are very close in age to the characters they're portraying.
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Frida Argento has autism (referred to as Asperger's) and her character, Sara, does as well.
  • Fake American: Nathalie Varli (Madison McCoy's) actress isn't really American, but she did spend a few years studying in the Midwest.
  • Improv: Several important scenes were improvised.
    • Wilhelm and Simon's first full conversation after the party.
    • Wilhelm's entire monologue while calling Simon on the football field.
  • Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: Most, if not all, of the original Swedish actors reprise their roles for the English dub.
  • Shown Their Work: Lisa Ambjörn, the head writer, interviewed Swedish students at schools similar to Hillerska and found that the hardest thing was getting them to actually talk to her. This is shown through August, who tells Wilhelm that someone could commit murder and no one would say a word. And, as of the end of season 1, August will face no real consequences for outing Wilhelm and Simon.
Lisa Ambjörn: "You've got each other's backs. Especially against outsiders. Internally you might have drama and problems, and everybody knows everything. But towards the outside world, you close ranks. That was the hardest thing about the research for this series."
  • Sleeper Hit: Young Royals received very little promotion outside of Sweden prior to its release, but quickly found international success.
  • Throw It In!: Wilhelm and Erik falling down while running from the photoshoot wasn't in the original script, but Edvin Ryding fell because of his shoes and the producers decided to keep the take.
  • Typecasting: Magnus Roosmann has played Edvin Ryding's father twice. In the crime thriller Gåsmamman, he was Fredrik Ek, whos unexpected death sends the Ek family, including the youngest son Linus (Edvin Ryding) into a dangerous world of crime, and now he plays Ludvig, Prince Wilhelm's dad.
  • What Could Have Been: Malte Gårdinger originally auditioned for Simon.
