Trivia / Yoshi's Story

  • Bad Export for You: The US release of the game's soundtrack, Music to Pound the Ground To, featured a CD die-cut in the shape of Yoshi's head. While Nintendo of America saw novelty appeal in the idea, not only did this require the album to remove tracks due to the shorter amount of usable space, but the non-circular shape of the disc also meant that it would only work in top-loading CD players, sometimes even damaging them due to the uneven weight distribution making the CD too wobbly.
  • Descended Creator: Composer Kazumi Totaka also voiced the Yoshis.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island was originally going to have pre-rendered 3D Digitized Sprites, but they were eventually replaced with drawing-style sprites. This game revisited that idea.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda:
    • The (nonexistent) brown, gold, and purple Yoshis, and how to unlock them, with unlocking the purple Yoshi by collecting every coin on every level being arguably one of the most well-known video game myths out there. Despite most realizing this to be false, it still appears on walkthroughs to this day, even on websites like IGN.
    • Being able to use the black and White Yoshis in Trial Mode.
