Trivia / Yoshihisa Yamamoto

Go To

  • Harpo Does Something Funny: The ending of his 1996 tournament match with Kiyoshi Tamura was a real scuffle. As both Tamura and Yamamoto were in midst of a push at the time (Tamura being groomed to be the next star, Yamamoto being slowly demoted but still with some momentum), the bookers could not decide who should win the match, and they told the two wrestlers to work a regular match and then fight for real at the ending. So it was done, and Tamura won by submitting Yoshihisa with a very real flying armbar.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Used Gary Moore's "Speak For Yourself" in his early appearances in RINGS.
  • What Could Have Been: He was originally scheduled to be Chris Dolman’s opponent for the latter’s retirement match, but Yamamoto fought Rickson Gracie just days before the event, so they brought in a debuting Joop Kasteel instead.
    • He would have faced Naoya Ogawa in RINGS in a judo vs. judo match, but despite it was officially set, it never happened.
    • He made appearances in both Pro Wrestling ZERO1 in 2001 after he left RINGS and New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2005 after he left Takada Dojo, where he would confront Naoya Ogawa in the former and Yuji Nagata in the latter with the presumption being that he was eventually going to wrestle them. For some reason neither match happened and Yoshihisa went back to MMA after both incidents.
