- Ascended Fanon: A DK Vine user offhandedly suggested that Laylee's bells should be called "Dingbats." Playtonic noticed, officially named the bells Dingbats, and sent the user some Yooka-Laylee merch as a reward.
- Contest Winner Cameo: Five of the Beettallion soldiers have names and designs inspired by contest winners from the pre-release "Pick Me Phoebe" contest.
- Creator-Driven Successor: Despite the obvious comparisons to Donkey Kong Country, it's worth noting that Playtonic have explicitly said that they consider The Impossible Lair to be its own distinct game, rather than a successor to Donkey Kong Country (Not that it stopped them from using review quotes that directly compare the two in their advertising however).
