Trivia / Workin' Boys

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Every StarKid actor in the short plays two characters, one seated in the audience and the other being either one of the "workin' boys" from Hidgens' past or one of the "workin' girls" in the production.
    • The workin' boys are Jeff Blim as Hidgens himself, also in the audience as the Man in a Hurry; plus Jon Matteson (also Richie Lipschitz), Joey Richter (also Ted Spankoffski), Corey Dorris (also Bill Woodward), Curt Mega (also Officer Bailey), and Dylan Saunders (also Gerald Monroe).
    • The workin' girls are Mariah Rose Faith (in the audience as the nondescript character credited only as "Woman" who previously appeared in Killer Track and Yellow Jacket), Kim Whalen (also Miss Mulberry), Bryce Charles (also Brenda the cheerleader), Virginia Vass (in the audience as a random extra, as she has no established Hatchetfield characters yet), Angela Giarratana (also Grace Chasity), and Lauren Lopez (in the audience as Linda Monroe, and also in a third role as Ruth Fleming). Paul Gabriel also applies, as he portrays Hidgens' stage manager and, like Virginia, is seated in the audience as a random extra.
  • Meaningful Release Date: Premiered on the same day as Nerdy Prudes Must Die, a convenient Friday the 13th of October, the perfect day for a horror story. It also premiered at 5:00 in the evening, a reference to the lyric "Five o'clock can't come soon enough".
  • The Other Darrin: Robert Manion, the original Professor Hidgens, was asked to leave StarKid in 2021, with his scenes in Nightmare Time 2 hastily reshot with Nick Lang in his place. Workin' Boys casts Hatchetfield songwriter Jeff Blim to take over the role.
  • What Could Have Been: Hidgens being forced to change the show to Workin' Girls was always going to be the main premise of the short film, but the rest of the plot and its paranormal and/or horror elements changed drastically through rewrites. One example is that the song "The Summoning" was originally intended to be part of this short film, unveiling all four of Wiggly's brothers at once, but was repurposed to be used in Nerdy Prudes Must Die instead, and following two seasons of Nightmare Time which introduced the brothers one by one.
    • Other drafts mentioned in the final fundraising livestream for Cinderella's Castle revealed an early draft had Emma (as the stage manager of the show) as the main character connecting with Becky Barnes (on top of an appearance from Stanley), and one in which Wilbur Cross was using the show as a ritual for dark purposes, which Hidgens would interrupt by Heroic Sacrifice/killing himself and would then be reborn in thanks by Webby in a universe where all the boys survived.
