Trivia / What I Stand For

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Steffan Jolley plays both Charlie McNamara and the dying soldier at the start whose face is never seen.
  • Actor-Inspired Element:
    • Ed Kinney wears a pendant with a peace symbol on it because Greg Young showed up for filming with it on.
    • Greg also suggested Ben Redmond's "Broken Sky" as the song for the ending.
    • When running from the battle, Aiden originally held his gun loosely. Laura Flynn however pointed out that a trained soldier would always point his weapon ahead in case he came across enemies, so Corey Patton did that in subsequent scenes.
  • Cast the Expert: Laura Flynn is a stunt woman and fight choreographer. As she gets a fight scene (that she helped choreograph), this makes her The Cast Show Off too.
  • Cast the Runner-Up: Greg Young auditioned for Rory, and got cast as Ed Kinney instead.
  • Creator Backlash: Subverted. Greg Young initially hated his performance in the final scene, but others assured him it was good, and he came to appreciate it.
  • Creator Recovery: Zac Goold admitted to being too depressed after the failure of the first attempt to make another film for ages. He first rebounded with Break and returned to form here.
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Rory is implied to be under sixteen. Jack Wright was eighteen. He's in fact older than Greg Young, who plays the trained soldier.
    • Jack is meant to be similar in age to Rory (befitting a Replacement Goldfish). Ross O'Rourke was also eighteen.
  • Looping Lines: The location used for the bunker proved to have too much of an echo, as well as the sounds of wind and nearby traffic. As a result, a lot of the dialogue was dubbed with ADR. Laura Flynn likewise had to dub grunts for her fight scene - and Zac recalls someone overhearing it and asking if they were making a porn film.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • Corey Patton as a no-nonsense Four-Star Badass Aiden Daniels is highly different to his role in The Gumdrops as Manchild Robbie.
    • Greg Young was normally the Only Sane Man, with the occasional troubled teen role. This marked his first time as a soldier.
  • Production Posse: Zac Goold, Robert Madden and Bobby Calloway reunite from Gold Standard (Zac and Robert had also created Break together). Bobby, Greg Young and Corey Patton also work together on The Gumdrops. Zac then cast Greg and Jack Wright in Miles Away, and Janet Little in Out.
  • Real Life Writes the Hairstyle: A variation. Charlie McNamara wears a hat because Stefan Jolley's hair was considered too long.
  • Throw It In!:
    • Ed's Suddenly Shouting with "they are moving towards us" was improvised by Greg Young.
    • Jack didn't have a name in the script, just being listed as 'Boy'. They gave him that name after Jack Wright.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The original script (written by Bobby Calloway) that was never finished due to the Troubled Production was about four American soldiers. The lead character was an Old Soldier who'd be revealed to be having a Dying Dream as he succumbs to a battle wound.
    • Byrne was originally Stephen, but was rewritten to be a woman after the original actor dropped out.
    • Early drafts of the script had Rory as much younger - around eleven or twelve. When the child actor cast dropped out, he was made into a teenager.
    • Aiden and Rory's father featured in the flashbacks as well, but his actor didn't show up on the filming day. As a result, all his lines were given to Janet Little.
