Trivia / Wendi Richter

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Her initial gimmick in The Texas Cowgirls was based off the fact that she had worked in rodeos and trained horses before she started wrestling. She just wore what she already owned as part of the gimmick.
  • Creator Backlash: She pokes fun at her old promos, claiming she had asked Vince for some kind of training. He said she would be fine and to "just show them your pearly whites".
  • Friendship on the Set: She and Cyndi Lauper became good friends while they were working together, and they travelled together too.
  • Hostility on the Set: She had no love for The Fabulous Moolah, stemming from her days at the latter's training school. Moolah never trained her personally, having some of her more experienced trainees like Judy Martin or Velvet McIntyre do it while she just collected the fees. Wendi also described her as "disrespectful" in the ring. Moolah also still took a portion of her earnings even when she was in the WWE and, after Wendi appealed to Vince Jr to get all her earnings, they ended up in a match together and Moolah nearly broke her back doing a Boston Crab in what she is convinced was intentional.
  • Money, Dear Boy: In her shoot interview she stated that she bluntly said to Vince that she had to make a lot of money, because women have a shorter shelf life in the wrestling business than men do. She was frequently underpaid compared to her male colleagues, and never received royalties for the additional Rock 'n Wrestling merchandise. She's convinced that the Original Screwjob was motivated by her constant disagreements with Vince about money.
  • Paying Their Dues: How she describes her time in Japan. She wasn't supposed to go, but Joyce Grable had pulled out and she replaced her. She wasn't told about the brutality beforehand, and claims she got most of her training "the hard way". She also had to work a part-time job at Wendy's to pay her rent while she was training at Moolah's school.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Cyndi Lauper was her favourite singer, and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" her favourite song.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", she also used "She Bop" for a time, owing to appearing in the song's music video.
  • Star-Making Role: The Brawl to End It All was broadcast on MTV and turned Wendi into a star, also kickstarting the Rock 'n Wrestling era.
  • What Could Have Been: She turned down an offer to participate in the 25-Diva Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXV.
