Trivia / Weathering With You

Go To

  • Celebrity Voice Actor:
  • Channel Hop: In Hong Kong, all of Makoto Shinkai's past films were distributed by Neofilms, but this film was distributed by Edko Films instead.
  • Children Voicing Children: In the foreign releases, Nagi is voiced by young boys.
  • Creator's Oddball: Weathering features an extended subplot with the middle-aged Keisuke, a first for Shinkai who's previously focused on youthful leads with older people being relegated to little-developed side characters.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: In the Japanese release, Nagi is voiced by the female Sakura Kiryu.
  • The Danza: Kana Hanazawa and Ayane Sakura voice Nagi's friends Kana (who in the film signs in with the last name Sakura) and Ayane (who in the novelization signs in under the last name Hanazawa).
  • Darkhorse Casting: Hodoka and Hina are voiced by Kotaro Daigo and Nana Mori, two relatively obscure actors at the time of the film's release, especially compared to big-name actors Ryuunosuke Kamiki and Mone Kamishiraishi who voiced Taki and Mitsuha respectively in Your Name.
  • Directed by Cast Member: The Latin Spanish dub was directed by Eduardo Garza, who has a minor role as a policeman.
  • Late Export for You: Due to the ongoing trade war between Seoul and Tokyo over "security" concerns, the South Korean distributors/theater chains delayed the film's release to October 29.
  • Life Imitates Art: Uncomfortably so. Two months after the film's Japanese release, Japan was hit by Typhoon Hagibis, which brought record-breaking rainfall and winds and captured footage of flooding and stormcloud patterns that disturbingly resembles what appeared in the film.
  • Promoted Fanboy: According to the interview with Shinkai included on the GKIDS home releases, there are animators who joined CoMix Wave to work with him specifically because they liked Your Name.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda:
    • Just because Mitsuha wears the same outfit as in the final sequence of her film, a number of viewers have made the assumption that Taki and Mitsuha's reunion takes place on the morning that Hina sacrifices herself to bring back the sunshine. Never mind that (1) this is most likely a case of Limited Wardrobe with the character designer or animators not wanting to create a whole new outfit for a mere brief cameo; (2) this film takes place mostly in summer 2021, whereas Your Name's timeskip clearly sends Taki to October 2021, meaning the reunion must have been in spring the next year; and (3) the trains are down when Hodaka runs on the tracks but they are in service in the other film.
    • A number of viewers have pieced together various actions that Keisuke performs whenever the topic of his late wife Asuka comes up to reach the conclusion that the accident she allegedly died in really was about her being the immediately previous weather girl who he allowed to be sacrificed.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The exhibition first held at Matsuya Ginza in Tokyo from September 25 to October 7 2019, before travelling around Japan, revealed several ways in which the concept differed from what hit the big screen, and much of this information also made its way into the collector's edition materials:
      • The working title was going to be Tenki Yohou no Kimi, which can be translated as Your Weathering Report.
      • Suga was going to be bespectacled and also a weather forecasting AI researcher. He was also present in the concept key visual.
      • The weather girl was going to be called Hinata and have two sisters rather than the one brother.
    • As shown in the Making of feature, the skydive scene was originally set to "Is There Still Anything Love Can Do?"
  • Write What You Know: Shinkai has said in interviews that the screentime given to Keisuke reflects his own concerns about advancement into middle age and raising a child. Unlike Hodaka, though, he never entertained thoughts of running away from home.
