- According to Phil Collins in a 1997 interview for VH1 Storytellers, "I Can't Dance" was originally called "Blue Jeans" (he said that was because the band came up with the riff after seeing a Levi Strauss blue jeans commercial featuring the song "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by The Clash.
- "Living Forever" was first penned under the title "Hip-Hop Brushes", referencing its origins as a Hip-Hop beat that Collins created with the E-mu SP-1200's brush soundfont.
- Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Like its past few predecessors, this album's material was put together from improvisational jam sessions.
