  • Banned in Korea: The novel was theoretically banned in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty because it glorified banditry and immorality.
  • Referenced by...:
    • The Legend of the Condor Heroes makes a nod to Water Margin in its first chapter by stating that Guo Xiaotian (Skyfury Guo in the English translation) and thus his son and one of the main protagonists of the novel, Guo Jing, are descended from one of the bandit-heroes from Water Margin — Guo Sheng (translated as Prosperity Guo). This indicates that the two novels take place within the same continuity, albeit applied retrospectively.
    • The Wind Road has a reference to Wu Song, the Tiger Killer's backstory in the desert tavern stage. Meng Jing, the hero was warned by the tavern keeper not to leave the tavern at night, because the fearsome Gobi Bear always hunts at dusk, but the hero persists anyways only to be attacked by the bear, which he kills in a lengthy battle. Wu Song did the same in his story, but with, you know, with a tiger.
    • Fate/Grand Order include a few of the 108 rebels as summonable Assassin-class Servants. These include Yan Qing and Huyan Zhuo, the latter receives a Gender Flip into a female Servant.
