Trivia / Wario Land: Shake It!

Go To

  • B-Team Sequel: The game is developed by Good-Feel instead of Nintendo like previous games.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The main theme music debuted months before the main game as Wario's victory music in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
  • Franchise Killer: Although the game got good reviews, it sold below expectations (though it still sold a million units so it wasn’t exactly a failure), and there haven't been any non-WarioWare games starring Wario since.
  • Market-Based Title: It was originally called Wario Land Shake in Japanese. It was retitled Wario Land: Shake It! in American languages, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension in European languages and Wario Land Shaking in Korean.
  • Viral Marketing: One of the things the game is remembered for was a very unique type of advertisement produced for it. Specifically, a YouTube video of the game started out like many other gameplay demonstrations featuring random scenes from the game spliced together, but every time there was an impact of some sort in the video, something on the actual web page would get knocked out of place. By the end, the entire page would be in total shambles. It was especially ahead of its time since YouTube still hadn't yet quite reached its omnipresent household name status. Sadly, since the site has gone through several different redesigns over the years, it can't be viewed in its original intended form anymore, but you can read about it here and see a screen recording of it.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When Good-Feel was first approached for development, their original idea for Wario was a Western-style shooter until Nintendo told them to stick to platforming.
    • Buccaneros were originally going to have a much more extensive presence earlier in development before being cut down to a single one in the tutorial and as flunkies for Large Fry, going as far as having an encounter where multiple stack on top of each other to fight Wario.
    • The game was originally gonna be a 3D game early on, however the team shortly changed their minds and decided to go for a fully hand-drawn look instead because they wanted to create the "ultimate 2D game".
    • Several unused palettes for Bloomsday/Scumflower exist in the game's files, depicting him with a golden pot (rather than grey) and differently coloured leaves/stems. It's unclear as to what their purpose is, though the official wiki speculates they were intended for a rematch against the boss.
    • An unused track hints that there was a level called "Plumber's Cave" at some point which would end up cut for unknown reasons (though the music was still featured on the game's website). The track itself is an extensive disco funk remix of the traditional Underground theme from Super Mario Bros.
