  • Old Shame: In one interview with Cody Rhodes, the issue of a common dream match among fans being Cody versus Goldust at WrestleMania was brought up, and the interviewer mentions that the closer there was to it was the Stardust vs. Goldust match at the 2015 edition (widely regarded as underwhelming and ending with what looked like a botched pin). Cody's first reaction to it was to say "Terrible! Terrible! Godawful."
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Brock Lesnar was originally supposed to wrestle Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 32. However, the main event the 2016 edition was a triple threat between Lesnar, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns for a world title shot at 'Mania, with the focus of the build being between Ambrose and Lesnar so Reigns winning could be seen as a surprise (it wasn't, but that's neither here nor there). Ambrose did such a great job with the build that it was determined that a match between him and Lesnar was guaranteed to draw more, so they changed his opponent to Ambrose the week of Fastlane (plus, Wyatt suffered an injury around that time).
    • In a 2017 interview with Inside the Ropes, Chris Jericho stated that, in late 2016, he pitched him challenging Kevin Owens for the Universal title at the Royal Rumble, and possibly winning. According to Jericho, Owens was originally supposed to defend against Brock Lesnar at 'Mania. Vince McMahon then decided that he wanted Jericho to beat Owens for the title at Mania instead, and then lose the title to Lesnar at Payback. Obviously the plan later changed to Goldberg beating Owens at Fastlane, with Owens beating Jericho for the United States title at 'Mania.
