• Channel Hop: Was supposed to be released in theaters before Sony decided to move it to Netflix on account of COVID-19.
• Dawson Casting: Downplayed; Rosa outright states that Gabi is ten years old. Ynairaly Simo is 14 years old in 2021, and given Production Lead Time it's likely she was twelve when recording.
• Pet Fad Starter: The creators of this movie were very conscientious about the possible implications, so they actually commissioned Netflix to make a PSA clarifying that kinkajous should not be kept as pets. For the most part these efforts seem to have been extremely successful considering kinkajous have not witnessed poaching epidemics unlike many other examples, though this could be simply because they're nigh impossible to (legally) obtain anyways.
• Production Posse: Lin-Manuel Miranda collaborates once again with screenwriter Quiara Alegría Hudes and music by Alex Lacamoire.
• What Could Have Been:
  • DreamWorks Animation originally greenlit the film but cancelled it in 2015. Sony bought the film after the success of Moana.
  • A storyboard to the flashback showed Andres as a young man rescuing Vivo. This was changed in him to the film to Andres being an old man, presumably since kinkajous have shorter lifespans than people do.
