Trivia / Um Jammer Lammy

Go To

  • Dummied Out: Chop Chop Master Onion's song can only be done solo by Lammy and nobody else (presumably because the level it take place in was supposed to be her dream sequence). However, hidden data exists for PaRappa's take on the song. The only difference between his and Lammy's is the fact that Chop Chop Master Onion's end-of-level speech is slightly different to accommodate the fact that he was speaking to PaRappa instead of of Lammy, and PaRappa's differently worded response to that. Otherwise, it's exactly the same. PaRappa's version of the level was finished up for the arcade port Um Jammer Lammy NOW!; it can be played two-player in this version as well, though Lammy and Rammy's lines are reused from other songs.
  • No Export for You: The arcade port Um Jammer Lammy NOW! was never officially released outside of Japan, and combined with its commercial failure, led to there being very little info about this version of the game until a surviving machine (potentially one of the last) was documented in 2023.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was planned as being a more direct sequel to PaRappa the Rapper but it was changed to a spin-off because Masaya Matsuura wanted to do something new with the concept; he went with rock, as he felt that rap was a more of-the-moment genre.
    • The game started to go into a more psychedelic direction at one point. Rodney Greenblat suggested that the game should instead go for a more goth theme, but the rest of the team disagreed, and preferred a punk rock direction instead. There are still some elements of goth in the final game, though, most notably with Rammy and Teriyaki Yoko's stage in general.
    • Originally Lammy was fox-like, and then a white lamb with pink hair. Her design used in the beta has curly hair with a sweatband (possibly from the psychedelic direction), but her final design at one point still had pink hair.
    • Originally the PaRappa version of the song "I Am a Master and You" was planned to be in the console game. It ended up going unused, though it still is in the game's data. It was later included in the Japan-only arcade game and on the soundtrack.
