• Role-Ending Misdemeanor: In this case, a Show-Ending Misdemeanor. After it was revealed that Showrunner Michelle Latimer had been falsely claiming to be Indigenous for twenty years, and used that lie to build a career out of telling stories about Indigenous people, several producers resigned from the show and Eden Robinson, author of the novels upon which it was based, said she felt embarrassed by the revelation. Soon after, the show was canceled despite having previously been renewed for a second season. Although Latimer claims that she had actually not wanted the press to state her indigenous heritage as fact because it was unconfirmed.
