  • Follow the Leader:
    • Most of Traveller's roots are in the Science Fiction literature of the '60s and '70s, but its initial success might have something to do with it coming out right after Star Wars was released.
    • The publishing format of the original Traveller also is the same as the original version of Dungeons & Dragons - three pamphlet-sized booklets in a box, with no dice or extras. The three books in the two games even have similar names: Book One was Men & Magic in D&D and Characters & Combat in Traveller, Book Two was Monsters & Treasure and Starships, and Book Three was The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures or Worlds and Adventures. D&D had a white box. Traveller's box was the same size, but was black.
  • Franchise Ownership Acquisition: Traveller is a setting (even if it did nominally start out as a rule system) which has passed through the hands of a number of publishers, though technically this wasn't a matter of corporate acquisitions; see the main page for details. The result looks like a tangled history of acquisitions from the outside.
