Trivia / Transformers: Legacy

  • Author's Saving Throw:
  • Content Leak: Early leaks of upcoming figures are rather common nowadays, with people even managing to acquire and show off figures before they’re officially revealed. Wave 2 of Legacy United is a rather egregious case, as the entire wave of figures was leaked before release. Many even found the figures in stores ready for purchase.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: During the official reveal stream for the Star Raiders, Filch was mistakenly referred to as being from the Cyberverse series. In reality, she originated from Robots in Disguise (2015)
  • Executive Meddling: The designers originally wanted G1 Breakdown to either be an entirely new sculpt or at the very least extensive retool to give him his proper alternate mode, but the executives at Hasbro were not willing to budge, and put their feet down on making the toy a complete Wildrider reuse. The designers ultimately had to comply, and some even admitted that they still had to fight for the final result to have the more distinctive G1 Breakdown features that it did. Needless to say, fans were far from pleased.
  • Role Reprise: When the HasLab Omega Prime reached 6000 total backers, Neil Kaplan decided to record a short unofficial promo for the campaign in-character as Optimus Prime.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, the first year would’ve featured several figures known as “Energon Monsters” that would’ve functioned similarly to the Weaponizers of the previous toyline. For unknown reasons, this concept was scrapped and the Pretenders replaced them.
    • A cartoon series to tie into the toyline was pitched at some point, and would’ve featured a Lighter and Softer tone compared to the War For Cybertron Trilogy. Netflix passed on the pitch as it didn’t fit their mandates at the time
    • A redeco of Hot Rod was planned for the Velocitron Speedia 500 subline, which would’ve given him darker colors reminiscent of his original toy, but ended up going unreleased when the subline was cancelled.
    • Cosmos and Override, released as part of the Velocitron Speedia 500 subline, were originally intended as extensive retools of Origins Bumblebee and Studio Series 86 Hot Rod respectively. However, the designers managed to engineer completely original toys using only the limited tooling sets that were allocated.
    • Pointblank received several compromises in his design, including scrapping his engine/spoiler accessory, and the removal of a bicep swivel, after he became too costly.
    • Design sketches for Skullgrin showed at one point he was meant to include a skull on the front of his tank mode.
    • Designer Mark Maher wished for the Devcon figure to include his sidekick, Slizardo, but there was no room in the budget.
    • Hound was initially supposed to be a standalone release as part of the Buzzworthy Bumblebee line of figures exclusive to Target. Due to low sales, however, Target eventually ended the deal, so Hound was instead released as part of the “Autobots Stand United” 5-pack for Generations Selects.
    • The Armorizer Shard was originally going to be molded in translucent purple plastic, based on Dark Energon from Transformers: Prime, however she ended up being switched to solid green plastic out of concerns for breakage issues.
  • Word of God: Due to Legacy not having accompanying media aside from the Japanese-exclusive Velocitron comics, the designers have taken the liberty of expanding on some of the lore themselves, either on their social media or in Pulse livestreams.
    • Jhiaxus allied with Tarantulas in order to gather Energon to revive his troops.
    • Minerva is still the Headmaster version of herself from before the Masterforce finale, but she lost the ability when being transported to the Legacy universe.
    • Strongarm has been promoted to officer from cadet.
    • The Armorizers were first encountered when Thundertron came across them on their home planet.
    • Thundertron gained his alternate mode after crash-landing on “Planet Z” and scanning one of the native lifeforms.
    • Malleus Minotaurus is a mystical hammer given life by Solus Prime, and he ended up becoming her blacksmithing assistant. The reason he’s included with Barrage and Chop Shop is because the two Insecticons captured him under the belief he was an ordinary hammer, and is now attempting to escape their clutches.
    • According to Hayato Sakamoto, when he was designing Maximal Bluebolt, he was told the name was a pun on “Silverbolt” as a joke about the Bluestreak/Silverstreak naming situation. He then noticed a seemingly coincidental connection between the name and RID Ultra Magnus’ weapon, and conceptualized the character as the weapon rebuilt into a sentient robot, which is why Bluebolt is referred to as a “Maximal Weaponizer”. However, the scene revealing this ended up being cut from the manga, but Sakamoto planned on revisiting it later on. He was actually surprised that Bluebolts ended up getting an updated figure alongside Omega Prime way before he could make the official reveal, and decided to go ahead and confirm it in a Twitter thread.
