Recycled Script: Much of the plot of Tragic Hero seems to be lifted from the second installment of the A Better Tomorrow trilogy. Retired gangsters seeking to go straight, triad leaders getting usurped by the Big Bad, the sequel going foreign (New York in A Better Tomorrow II, Malaysia in Tragic Hero), the villain retaliating by blowing up a restaurant belonging to the hero, an ally giving up his life for the rest of the good guys to uncover the main villain's hideout (Kit from A Better Tomorrow II, Chuan from Tragic Hero), and a final explosive shootout in the Big Bad's mansion with grenades, bombs and explosives being thrown everywhere.
