- Adored by the Network: To the point where ABC acts as if this is their signature animated Halloween special, kicking Scared Shrekless from archrival DreamWorks Animation off the network to make room for this special, and even overshadowing the long-running It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (and editing it so Toy Story of Terror can be aired uncut every year.)
- Channel Hop: ABC didn't air this special at all in 2020 (coincidentally the same year the Peanuts specials left broadcast TV for streaming exclusively on Apple TV+). Instead it has aired on Freeform as usual, along with now airing on the Disney Channel, and has been added to Disney+. The next year, it aired as an opening act for the television debut of Toy Story 4.
- The Danza: Carl Weathers as Combat Carl.
- The Other Darrin: Irán Castillo did not reprise Jessie in the special's Mexican Spanish dub, and was replaced by Rosalba Sotelo.
- Out of Holiday Episode: Even though it's normally aired close to Halloween, the special takes place in the summertime, and thus has nothing to do with Halloween.
- What Could Have Been:
- According to Andrew Stanton, the appearance of Al McWhiggin was cut for time, only his name was left.
- The deleted scenes would have fleshed out the hotel manager's motive for stealing and selling toys: to buy a boat.
