• Mid-Development Genre Shift: In the manual for the previous game, ZUN said he was intending to make a "horizontal scrolling action game" next, but ended up making this versus shmup instead.
• Working Title: When this game was still in development, the Story of Eastern Wonderland manual referred to it as Touhou Yumejikan.
