• Promoted Fanboy: Vince Gilligan, who had been a fan of the show, wrote the script for this episode. He would go on to write, produce, and direct numerous episodes afterward.
• Science Marches On: The subatomic particles that Dr. Davey lumps into the "dark matter" category have all been studied and created in particle accelerators to the point that most of them are now household words. Not only that, but most of them were known to physicists over a decade before the episode was written, and no physicist would mistake them for "dark matter".
• What Could Have Been: Vince Gilligan's original script featured Bannon's shadow developing a mind of its own, constantly expanding to fill whole rooms and even deliberately targeting people. Gilligan admitted that (as it was only the second script he'd written for television) Chris Carter and the other writers had to "reel it back into reality," as the concept would have been far too expensive to shoot on a TV budget.
