• Creator Backlash: David Duchovny has talked disparagingly about this episode a few times, including an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the late '90s. Duchovny told O'Brien that he'd forgotten about the episode until he caught a rerun on cable one night, and thought it was absurd that Mulder's fear of fire was such a crucial plot point considering it was never mentioned before, and never brought up again, and in fact Mulder had interacted with fire in other episodes before this without showing any degree of panic.
• What Could Have Been: Phoebe Green was conceived as a recurring character who would occasionally help Mulder and Scully with their investigations,^note There were even rumors at the time that Fox wanted her to replace Scully as Mulder's full-time partner, but no one involved in the show has confirmed this was ever the case. but fans didn't warm to her and Chris Carter didn't think Amanda Pays had the right chemistry with David Duchovny to make it work.
