• All-Star Cast: The cast list includes Alessia Cara, Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, and Martin Short to name a few.
• The Cast Show Off: Alessia Cara and Maya Rudolph perform their own singing.
• Dawson Casting: The Willoughby kids are all voiced by adult actors.
• He Also Did: Lois Lowry, who wrote the original book, is also the one who wrote The Giver and its sequels.
• Irony as She Is Cast: Minor case: Alessia Cara has a few genetic disorders that affect her ability to properly grow hair. Her character grows a mustache at the end.
• Those Two Actors: Will Forte and Maya Rudolph performed on Saturday Night Live at the same time.
• Throw It In!: Alessia Cara sent the crew a voice note of her singing a rough draft of Jane's song, but at the time she had a sinus infection. The crew loved how it sounded so they used it for the scene where the Willoughbys were trapped on top of the mountain and Jane sang her song, since it sounded like she's trapped in the cold and it's perfect for the scene.
• What Could Have Been: According to this behind-the-scenes panel, Lizzo was considered as a voice for Nanny, as well as an inspiration for her character design. Ryan Reynolds was also considered for the role of Tim.
