  • Creator Backlash: When Weirdstone and its later sequel The Moon of Gomrath were published in the 60s, they were the subject of critical acclaim and became extremely popular, remaining so to date; with writers including Philip Pullman and Neil Gaiman lauding them as great and important works of fantasy literature. Alan Garner, on the other hand, has described them as "one of the worst books published in the last twenty years... technically... inept." He grew to loathe the series and its characters so much that he refused to publish the planned third book in the trilogy. This eventually appeared as the 2013 novel Boneland. Fifty years after first publication of Moon Of Gomrath.
