Box Office Bomb: It completely failed at the U.S. box office, mustering only $10 million total in its entire run. It did better overseas, but only could muster $60 million worldwide against a $35 million budget (generally, a movie needs to make double its budget to enter profitability due to theater and marketing costs). Its relatively low budget means that it's not a disaster in the league of John Carter and its ilk, but it demonstrates that perhaps Americans aren't comfortable with a film celebrating the Twin Towers (as well as being noted for its vertigo-inducing effects, which caused people to walk out on the film in discomfort and got advisories from news outlets).
American Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Frenchman Philippe Petit. Levitt studied French poetry at Columbia University and speaks French fluently and during production, he picked up a Parisian accent.
