- Accent Depundent: There's a Visual Pun in a game of charades that only works with certain British accents. Alice is standing there with a pair of jars in her hands. The other players have worked out that it's a movie but give up. She says it's Jars, which she says she's never seen but is about "these giant jars that attack people". The others realize she's talking about Jaws and give a Lame Pun Reaction.
- The Cast Showoff: Roger Lloyd-Pack got several opportunities to show off his chops as a singer after Owen joins the church choir.
- The Character Died with Him: "The Vicar Of Dibley In Lockdown", two years after Emma Chambers' death from a heart attack, reveals that Alice had succumbed to cancer three years earlier.
- Character Outlives Actor: Unlike Alice, Owen and Frank — Roger Lloyd-Pack and John Bluthal passed away in 2014 and 2018 respectively — are stated to still be alive as of the 2020 "In Lockdown" specials.
- Dawson Casting: Likely applies to James Fleet, who was in his 40s when he started playing Hugo and about nine years younger than Gary Waldhorn playing David.
- Playing Against Type: Richard Armitage is best-known for his dark, grim and brooding roles. He here plays Harry Kennedy, an accountant and hopeless romantic with a thing for nerdy sweaters and Geraldine's eventual husband.
- What Could Have Been:
- Dawn French was reluctant to play Geraldine at first, seeing her as too nice and lacking in faults. At one point, she begged to play Alice instead, only to be sent a list of other available actresses to take the lead (including Miriam Margolyes, Alison Steadman, and Julie Walters) that convinced her to play the part.
- An American remake was attempted for Fox in 2007, produced by Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin and starring Kirstie Alley as The Minister of Divine. It didn't get picked up.
