Trivia / The Twilight Zone (1959) S2E22: "Long Distance Call"

Go To

  • The Danza: Bill Mumy as Billy Bayles.
  • Similarly Named Works: Richard Matheson's short story "Long Distance Call" was later adapted under the title "Night Call" due to the original title having already been used for this episode.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The Twilight Zone Compendium noted that originally, the father's speech was focused on himself and his relationship with the grandmother. Serling wanted it changed to focus on Billy, and after testing the original speech, it was successfully changed.
    • Billy's near-drowning scene was originally meant to show him lying face-down in the pond, but the finished episode uses a Discretion Shot because Bill Mumy's mother worried that if he filmed that scene, it might give him genuine suicidal ideas, and refused to allow it.
