• Actor Allusion: Sheriff Hoyt (portrayed by R. Lee Ermey) at one point calls Morgan "maggot".
• Banned in China: Banned in Ukraine.
• Cast the Runner-Up: Lauren German auditioned for the role of Erin, which went to Jessica Biel. They ended up giving her the smaller role of the hitchhiker at the start (who was much younger in the original script - being aged 15-16).
• Dyeing for Your Art: Andrew Bryniarski went on a diet of brisket and white bread, bringing his weight up to nearly 300 lbs to play Leatherface.
• Enforced Method Acting: Jonathan Tucker forced the gun down his throat to make himself vomit for every take. If you look, you can see him spitting vomit out of his mouth.
• Never Work with Children or Animals: The scene with the possum required many retakes and re-shoots, because the possum ended up looking adorable rather than scary.
• Orphaned Reference: Erin is said to have not drunk the water or smoked weed when they were in Mexico. These are remnants of her deleted subplot (see below).
• Screwed by the Lawyers: Jedidiah was going to wear a Felix the Cat t-shirt throughout the film, but the copyright holders wouldn't allow it. The novelization references him wearing one.
• Tuckerization: Kemper is named after serial killer Edmund Kemper
• What Could Have Been:
  • The first choice by the filmmakers to play Leatherface in the remake? Dolph Lundgren. He turned down the role in order to spend time with his family.
  • Katie Holmes, Kirsten Dunst, and Jessica Alba were all considered for the role of Erin.
  • There were a few deleted scenes that reveal that Erin is pregnant with Kemper's child.
  • Morgan's death had to have some of its Gorn cut down to avoid a NC-17 rating. The scene as filmed would show the chainsaw going through his crotch, with intestines flying everywhere. The deaths of the hitchhiker, Kemper and Pepper had to likewise be toned down for this reason.
  • A deleted epilogue would reveal Erin being interviewed in a mental hospital several decades later and revealing to the journalist that the police mishandled the investigation and they got the wrong man. She revealed to the journalist that the police found a dead body believed to be the killer; however, they found a body with two arms when Leatherface only had one. The real Leatherface secretly slips away from the police.
