Trivia / The Strokes

  • Creator Backlash: The band collectively hates their 2011 release "Angles", due to the isolated recording style and several personal issues plaguing the band and affecting the music's quality. Guitarist Nick Valenci noted in an interview with Pitchfork that that only 75% of the album was actually done together, and that the rest of it felt like "picking up the scraps and trying to finish a puzzle together". Julian Casablancas was also dismissive of the record, saying that there was a lot of stuff done on the record that he wouldn't have done.
  • Chart Displacement: "Juicebox" was their only Hot 100 entry and their most successful song in the UK. Yet it's probably not even the best-known song in the album (that honor would go to "You Only Live Once"), let alone as recognizable as the songs from Is This It and Room on Firenote .
  • Distanced from Current Events: For the US release of Is This It, the group voluntarily replaced "New York City Cops" with B-Side "When It Started" - the former featured the refrain "New York City cops / they ain't too smart", which they felt was now in bad taste due to how well the New York City police department responded to the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.
  • Revival by Commercialization : Arguably with "Reptilia"'s inclusion in Rock Band and Guitar Hero III, which were released during the band's hiatus.
