• Actor Allusion: When Sharon's waters break, Dessie shouts "Red Alert!"
• Adaptation Name Change: The family name is changed from the book, from the Rabbittes to the Curleys. This was due to the rights to the characters from The Commitments being owned by 20th Century Fox, and the new distributors (BBC Films and Miramax) being unable to obtain the rights. Oddly, the sequel The Van was also made by Fox but still retains the change.
• Dawson Casting: Sharon is 20 years old in the film; however, Tina Kellegher was 25 at the time of filming.
• Divorced Installment: The book was a sequel to The Commitments but the characters couldn't be used here for copyright reasons so we're all replaced. Same thing happened with the third book, The Van but Colm Meaney played the father in all three movies.
• I Am Not Spock: Pat Laffan, despite his multitude of roles on stage and screen, was effectively typecast by the Irish public as George Burgess. Well, at least until he played Pat Mustard in Father Ted.
• Throw It In!: In the scene where Dessie celebrates the birth of his grandchild by ordering a pint of Guinness and downing it one go, Colm Meaney's post-Guinness smile of achievement was his own reaction to successfully pulling that off.
• Underage Casting: Colm Meaney and Tina Kellegher are just 14 years apart.
