- Dawson Casting: The movie features people in their mid-20s portraying 18-year-olds. Same goes for the sequels.
- Executive Meddling: The original script was meant to be satirical of slasher movies but was rewritten to be more serious (as well as generic). Roger Corman financed the film and insisted on a large amount of nudity being added.
- What Could Have Been: The script for the film was written by the feminist activist Rita Mae Brown as a spoof of the slasher genre. Instead, the producers had it directed as a straight horror story.
