Trivia / The Simpsons S7 E12 "Team Homer"

Go To

  • Distanced from Current Events: Towards the end, Homer tells Marge: "We were so close to winning the championship. Now, thanks to Burns, it's never going to happen. And I spent so much time building that trophy case." The scene then cuts to the trophy case with an Academy Award in it, showing that Homer has stolen the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor given to Dr. Haing S. Ngor for The Killing Fields, with his name crossed out. Only a month after it first aired, Dr. Ngor was murdered. In syndication (which includes FXX reruns and the Disney Plus version) and on the season seven DVD set, the scene was changed to show the Oscar being the one given to Don Ameche for Cocoon, who had died a few years earlier, but of natural causes. His name was changed to Ameche's because the producers were afraid it would be implied that Homer may have murdered Ngor to steal his Oscar.
  • Edited for Syndication: Syndicated parts cut (the typical ones cut when this episode aired on free TV in America which are now uncut on cable, streaming, and home media) include:
    • Mr. Burns mistaking his "boweling" check for the "bowling" check (and Smithers telling Burns about the time he didn't get his monthly boweling).
    • Chief Wiggum letting Snake bowl, only for Snake to escape and the police bowling team to forfeit.
    • During the school assembly where Skinner announces that the school will have a uniform dress code, the end of the scene where the uniforms are brought in and Skinner announces that the plus-size ones for the fat kids are no longer available was cut, making the scene end with Lisa modeling her school uniform and getting pelted with paper balls and a shoe.
  • In Memoriam: This episode was dedicated to Doris Grau, the voice of Lunchlady Doris, who died a week before its original airing. This was Lunchlady Doris' last appearance until season 9's "Lisa's Sax", which used archived audio, before being brought back on a regular basis in season 18, now voiced by Tress MacNeille.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The version of this episode that has the original scene of Homer with Dr. Haing S. Ngor's Oscar instead of Don Ameche's has never been seen since its original airing, though the scene is on YouTube.
  • What Could Have Been: Originally, during the sequence where the kids' uniforms turn colorful and they act like their destructive selves again, Superintendent Chalmers asks Skinner why the uniforms aren't color-fast and Skinner telling him he bought the uniforms cheap, then Chalmers' suit shrinks and he yells, "Damn you, Armani!" For whatever reason, it was changed to the now-famous scene of Chalmers asking Skinner why the uniforms aren't color-fast and Skinner telling him he bought the uniforms from the same place he bought his mom's dresses, then freaking out when he realizes his mother is in the park (with Chalmers adding, "Now this, I gotta see.")
