Trivia / The Simpsons S5 E4 "Rosebud"

Go To

  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Matt Groening named this as one of his ten favourite episodes. He also named the scene of Homer eating 64 slices of American cheese is one of the funniest moments in the show's history.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • Mr. Burns is trying to shut off the tv and beer supply via giant switches only for Smithers to tell them they're only props and they have to do the work to cut them off.
    • The ending of the episode was originally longer, but two segments were cut. The first saw Washington D.C. destroyed by invading Canadian troops, who found Bobo. The second featured the entire planet being overrun by giant Redwoods and spotted owls.
  • Edited for Syndication: The American syndicated version (barring the DVD and the cable reruns) have edited the following scenes:
    • George H. W. Bush getting turned away at Burns's party because he only served one term as U.S. President (1988 to 1992) and Jimmy Carter (another one-termer U.S. President; serving from 1976 to 1980) trying to be friends with Bush, Sr. because of it.
    • The Imagine Spot of Homer owning his own recording studio and singing the Big Mac jingle before drooling all over himself and the microphone. Then the music producer tells Homer he's "drooling on the mic again".
    • Homer trying to persuade Maggie to give up Bobo by giving her a box to play with... only for Homer to like the box better. It is worth noting because a later scene where Marge tells Homer that she's proud of him refusing the money for the sake of his daughter has a call-back where Homer plays with the box before Marge takes it away.
    • Lisa and Homer watching the awful sitcom Mr. Burns and Smithers created after Burns cuts off all television in the town.
  • Promoted Fanboy: The Ramones were "gigantic obsessive Simpsons fans" and Marky Ramone later called their appearance "a career highlight".
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally, one of the historical moments Bobo was around for was John F. Kennedy's assassination, but the writers thought the joke would be in bad taste (and would cause Fridge Logic, because if Bobo was on the Nautilius in 1957, how would he have ended up in Dallas in 1963 — unless the Nautilius part was the new scene the writers created to replace the rejected JFK scene).
    • The ending was gonna include Bobo ending up in Washington DC, where it's under attack by Canadians. And a Time Skip where a noble-looking Homer is in an Earth inhabited by very tall redwoods and large owls.
