• Creator Backlash: Hank Azaria hated Moe's line in the prank call scene.
• Defictionalization: In 2003, a Homer Simpson jack-in-the-box was available for sale. When cranked, it played the last few bars of The Simpsons theme before Homer popped out.
• Edited for Syndication: In Channel Ten's airings of the episode in Australia, Lisa's dream just ends with Kang and Kodos laughing as they leave Earth, leaving out the end with Flanders wishing for his house to be turned into a castle, much to Homer's envy.^note Since the scene has no objectionable content in it, it could be considered a cut for time The scene is retained on Fox 8 and FXX's airings.
• Reality Subtext: Due to Bart's second wish, the Simpsons become rich and famous. This leads to an oversaturation of merchandise bearing the family's likenesses and catchphrases. This bears more than a passing resemblance to the Simpsons mania of the early '90s.
