• The Original Darrin: After a brief cameo voiced by Dan Castellaneta in "The Front", Artie Ziff returns voiced by Jon Lovitz in this episode.
• Reality Subtext: The episode's Chalkboard Gag had Bart writing, "I will not bite the hand that feeds me Butterfingers." Two episodes earlier, the show made a jab at Butterfingers where Chief Wiggum dumped an entire supply of them into a fire only to be rejected (with Wiggum commenting that "even the fire doesn't want them"). Since both episodes aired around the same time Butterfinger's contract with The Simpsons expired, the scene made them drop their sponsorship. However, in 2013, Butterfingers' contract with the Simpsons franchise was renewed.
• Technology Marches On: Artie Ziff has become fabulously rich with a device that converts the sound of a modem dialing into soothing music. No wonder Ziff had hit the skids by his next appearance in season 15's "The Ziff Who Came To Dinner", as those were just starting to become obsolete.
