- All-Star Cast: Robert De Niro, Angela Bassett, Edward Norton and Marlon Brando.
- Awesome, Dear Boy: Despite not liking the script, Edward Norton agreed to do this film because it would likely be the only chance he would get to work with Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro. As fate would have it, the film did turn out to be Brando's final on-screen appearance.
- Hostility on the Set: Marlon Brando constantly called Frank Oz "Miss Piggy". Pretty soon Oz refused to speak to Brando, and co-star Robert De Niro had to step in and direct all of the scenes with Brando. He also refused to smile in his last scene, so his ever-so-slight smile was added in post-production by a computer.
- Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: Martin Drainville and Jean-René Ouellet (who played Jean-Claude and André respectively) dubbed themselves in the Canadian French dub.
- What Could Have Been:
- Michael Douglas was originally attached to star as Nick Wells.
- Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt were offered the role of Jackie, but he turned it down.
- The filmmakers debated whether or not Jackie should kill Danny when he stumbles upon his scheme in the basement; ultimately they decided that Danny's kindness toward Jackie's fake alter ego Brian justified sparing his life.
- Written by Cast Member: Edward Norton scripted the "talent in the choices" scene between Nick and Jackie.
