- Approval of God: This is John Grisham's favorite of all the films adapted from his books. He said of the film, "To me, it's the best adaptation of any of my books. I love the movie. It's so well done."
- Actor-Inspired Element: Rudy being sworn in by Leo Drummond was suggested by one of the actors (the bald lawyer) playing Leo's Army of Lawyers based on his own admission to the bar, pointing that a Good Ol' Boy like Drummond would never object to Rudy arguing the case and would certainly take the opportunity for his opposition to be a Naïve Newcomer. He also suggested Deck contacting Bruiser for help on getting stolen documents admitted as evidence.
- Creator-Chosen Casting: Francis Ford Coppola cast Matt Damon after seeing him in Courage Under Fire.
- Method Acting: Francis Ford Coppola encouraged Matt Damon to stay in his character's apartment in order to immerse himself in the role. Coppola was then able to sneak some shots of Damon waking up in the morning.
- Uncredited Role: Danny Glover as Judge Tyrone Kipler.
- Underage Casting: Claire Danes was only seventeen-years-old at the time of filming, despite the fact that her character is supposed to be in her twenties and married.
- What Could Have Been:
- Edward Norton auditioned for Rudy Baylor. Stephen Dorff and Sean Penn were also considered.
- Laurence Fishburne was originally cast as Judge Tyrone Kipler.
- Nick Nolte was orignally cast as Leo F. Drummond.
