• Common Knowledge: Many tourist guides and books of folklore in the twentieth century would place Galloway's infamous "Murder Hole" at the end of Loch Neldrichen, following this book's depiction... but the traditional site was actually several miles away at Rowantree.
• Crockett was disappointed with Guy Mannering because Walter Scott's lack of local Galloway knowledge showed, and he wrote The Raiders in response.
