Trivia / The Prince (2021)

Go To

  • Descended Creator: Series creator Gary Janetti is the voice of Prince George.
  • Distanced from Current Events:
    • Prince Andrew is not present or mentioned at all in the show, due to his real-life counterpart facing numerous allegations of grooming and sexual assault during the show's production and release.
    • The show's premiere was delayed when Prince Phillip, who is depicted here as a decrepit old zombie, passed away at the age of 99 in April 2021.
  • Inspiration for the Work: The show was inspired by a series of posts Gary Janetti made on Instagram, in which real photos of Prince George with his family were accompanied by twisted narrative captions told seemingly from George's point of view.
  • No Export for You: For understandable reasons, it has never been released in the UK in any form, and with the real-life passing of Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth it is extremely unlikely to in the future.
  • Production Lead Time: Between the show's announcement in January 2020 and the premiere in July 2021, much had happened to change the public's perception of the British royal family, including Oprah Winfrey's bombshell interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle about their experiences with them, as well as the popularity of the Netflix series The Crown (particularly its controversial fourth season). On top of that, one of the featured family members had died in April 2021, which actually delayed the show's premiere.
  • Screwed by the Network: When HBO Max announced the release date for the show literally the day before its release, some people took it as a sign that they really wanted to get it over with.
